Mauro Cassese
Specialist in General Surgery and Cardiac Surgery, Mauro Cassese boasts of a more than thirty years’ experience acquired all over the world, mainly in Europe and the United States.
He attended Medical school at Sapienza University in Rome, and a Clinical fellowship in General Medicine at University of Oklahoma Health Science Center, before specializing in Cardiac Surgery. Mauro Cassese obtained the license to operate both in Italy and the United States.
Currently, he is Head of the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery at Casa sollievo della sofferenza Hospital in San Giovanni Rotondo (FG).
He also directed the Cardiovascular Surgical Department at Santa Maria Hospital in Bari, the Departments of Cardiovascular Surgery, Interventional Cardiology for Structural Heart Diseases and Cardiology at S. Anna Hospital in Catanzaro, and the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery and Cardiology at Villa Maria Pia Hospital in Turin.
His main areas of interest are CABG, arterial CABG and total arterial revascularization, off-pump CABG, hybrid revascularization, heart valve replacement and repair, mini-invasive mitral and aortic valve replacement and repair, aortic surgery, transcatheter aortic valve implantation, heart failure surgery and surgery for atrial fibrillation.
As a surgeon, he performed more than 800 general surgery operations and more than 11,000 heart surgeries. Over the course of his career Dr. Cassese supervised and directed more than 18,000 heart surgery operations.
He gathered a long lasting experience as proctor (mainly in Europe, USA and Middle East) for several biomedical technologies companies (Symetis/Boston Scientific, Medtronic and HVT – Edwards Lifesciences). For HVT – Edwards Lifesciences he has become one of the very few proctors all over the world certified for TF, TA and TAO approaches with Sapien XT and Sapien-3 transcatheteral valves.
